There’s a chance the franchise winds up with zero. However, Chicago was likely hoping to get at least one legitimate star from the Butler trade and then another one through the draft after all the losing. They’ll hopefully be key players for the Bulls for a long time. While neither of these players look like surefire stars (it’s too bad the Bulls couldn’t get Luka Doncic or Trae Young in 2018), Carter has arguably been Chicago’s best player this season and White has had brilliant moments as a rookie. Now, by trading Butler, we do also have to consider that it resulted in the Bulls losing a bunch of games in recent seasons, helping them wind up with Wendell Carter Jr. He has remade himself into a defensive menace off the bench, but he’s in the final season of his rookie contract and is a trade candidate before the deadline. The 25-year-old lost his starting point guard spot because of his ineffectiveness last season. He has been dealing with an oblique injury, but this isn’t the start he wanted before a summer in which he can sign a contract extension.ĭunn has actually been a pleasant surprise this season, but that’s because the expectations were very low after the Bulls failed to trade him over the summer. The big man has struggled defensively, getting bullied routinely and looking soft on both ends way too often. The 22-year-old is averaging only 14.8 points and 7.6 rebounds while shooting 37.3% overall and 29.1% from 3-point range. Markkanen has been even more disappointing.
